Are You For or Against Facebook’s Dislike Button?

facebook dislike buttonDisLike button coming for Facebook! Sounds a lot like a South African “jislaaik”, hey 🙂 What do you think about it?

I see good and bad. At the moment, there’s no such thing as a bad Like. You post a story about a robbery and you get a “Thanks for sharing the story Like”. A Dislike button is going to confuse the hell out of people – do they appreciate the poster for his/her effort or hate the story – “What to click, what to click, oh my god, what do I do?” Social standings are going to be in jeopardy.

When it comes to comments, it will be a lot simpler i.e. love-what-you-said, hate-what-you-said will be very easy to express with an ambidextrous FB button option.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder, has been reported as saying that it will support subscriber “empathy”. I wonder if he would say that if he had met us South Africans?

Let’s face it, Saffies love to be negative so Dislike is likely to become very popular without commentators having to use their brains and explain why they used it e.g. the same unsubstantiated, biased, racist or just plain stooopid attitude that has had many websites closing down their comment sections?

Facebook wins because all interaction is social interaction – or is it? I consider it a devolution but no matter which way it goes for me on my always-getting-me-in-trouble FB page, my Post Engagement Reach is likely to increase. I’m just going to have to embrace the irony unless i can get Zuckerberg dronk in Knysna and persuade him otherwise.

So, WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Start your comment off with “Like” or “Dislike”… or “Jislaaik” if you can’t make up your mind:) Oh, wait, there’s no comment section here anymore. Well, you’re just going to have to pop into my Facebook post.
